You Can Stand Under My Umbrella \ Jasmounder

floundertheguppy:

Flounder laughed with Jasmine, happy to have someone around who is able to cheer him up so easily just by talking about silly things like hypnotism. He hadn’t really done much laughing or joking around lately, mostly staying to himself the past week, so this was a nice change of things for him. “Oh, we can probably find a pocket watch somewhere. That’s easy. Maybe you have to use a normal pocket watch but cast some sort of spell or enchantment on it in order for it to have the power to hypnotise people. As soon as we get inside we can start up that to-do list. We have to have some sort of game plan in order to rule the world without it falling to shambles.”

He nodded as Jasmine spoke to him, thinking things over. “I really trust that he didn’t mean what he was doing and that it was just a big mistake. I mean, think about it Jas. What would you do if someone you really cared about did this to you, but you knew it was an accident and that they were really sorry? You can’t just, like, turn your back on them and forget about everything. It’s easier said than done. I really don’t know what I would do if I didn’t give him a second chance, to be honest.” Flounder had still been playing with his hands in his lap when he saw Jasmine start to shake her head out of the corner of his eye. He nodded as she spoke, correcting herself in response to the question he had just asked her. “Oh, okay. You don’t need to worry though, Jas. I think things will work out fine; everything just needs a little time to settle right now. I don’t think he’d hurt me again.” He turned to look at her when she said he deserved more than that, and this time it was his turn to shake his head. “I don’t want anyone else, though. I just want Edward.”

Nodding along, Jasmine’s face lit up as an idea came to her. “We should go into town and see if they have one of those like, magic store things. You know, the ones in movies with the fortune tellers and those magic cards. I think it would be funny to see what they would tell us.” Jasmine wasn’t sure if she didn’t totally not believe in fortune tellers. It was like ghosts and aliens; maybe the magic was real or not. “Oh, yes. Every good rule has a game plan. Speaking of going inside, could we maybe go soon?” Jasmine pulled her soaking hair over her shoulder, wringing some of it out on the grass. “I think I’ve spent enough time in the rain for the rest of my life…” At least the lightning stopped.

What would she do if someone did that to her? Jasmine’s lips pursed at this question as she thought about it. The only person she could see herself with was Tarzan, and she didn’t think he would ever cheat on her. It was impossible; her thoughts wouldn’t allow it to even be a figurative possibility. Although he did kiss another girl when dating Cindy and then sleep with Jessie while he was in the middle of figuring out his feelings for her…but those were all different. They weren’t even together in the latter, and she couldn’t a past relationship against him. Theirs was different. They were in love. “I don’t know what I would do…” She trailed off. But she couldn’t see herself ever walking away from Tarzan either, never. Except you kind of did… a voice in the back of her head said, which she immediately hushed. “I guess you’re right. As long as you trust him not to do it again. If he does though, I think we’re going to have to go all Carrie Underwood on his car or something, though.” It wasn’t a topic to joke about, but Jasmine couldn’t help but slip that little statement in. “I don’t mean to keep bringing everything down, but..isn’t your relationship going to be a little different now?” Jasmine nodded at Flounder’s reassurement. She was worried he would be mad, that he thought she was trying to insult him when she was trying to do the exact opposite. “Well if you don’t want anyone else, then you shouldn’t be conflicted, right?” She asked, pushing her own opinions away and now just trying to help Flounder clear his head of all confusion.

You Can Stand Under My Umbrella \ Jasmounder

floundertheguppy:

Flounder quirked an eyebrow as he saw a confused expression spread across Jasmine’s features and was confused himself until she said what she was thinking. He shook his head slightly, trying to find a way to explain exactly what he was thinking. “I’m not saying being normal is a bad thing, just that I’d rather be not normal? But you’re right, I don’t even know what normal is or if it even exists. Let’s stop talking about this before I bombard my brain with tasks that are too strenuous,” he stated, laughing lightly. He wasn’t even sure what he was talking about right now, thinking a little too far into this whole conversation with Jasmine than his brain was up for dealing with right now. After all, he had come out here to sit down and clear his head. “We will be the best looking, most fashionable rulers of the world people have ever seen. Hypnotism would be the greatest thing I’ve ever learned, if we ever found out how,” Flounder joked back.

When he saw the confused look make it’s way back to Jasmine’s face, Flounder studied her for a moment as he tried to figure out what exactly she was thinking. As he listened to her questions, he shrugged and looked down at his lap. “What he did upset me but I know he’s sorry. I want to give him a second chance and forgive him but I think I just needed time for myself. I need some time to let the pain kind of fade away on its own so that’s why I told him we needed to take a break.” He stopped talking, fiddling with his hands where they were rested in his lap only looking up to respond to Jasmine’s questions when she finished asking. “Well, if he did it again then I’d have to rethink things but I really don’t think he will. I trust that it’s the truth when he says that this was just a mistake and that he is really sorry.” Watching Jasmine for a moment, taking in what she was saying for a moment he bit his lip. “Do you think forgiving him makes me look weak?” he asked in a softer voice than he had been using before, his words trailing off slightly at the end. Everything Jasmine was saying seemed to be boring its way into Flounder’s mind and it was only serving to make him even more confused, if that was possible. He didn’t think anything Edward did was intentional but Jasmine’s last statement kept repeating itself, saying that it wasn’t an accident either. Flounder kept his gaze trained on the ground as he watched the drops of rain splashing off the ground in front of him as he thought to himself, waiting to hear what it was that Jasmine’s answer would be.

Jasmine laughed; she loved the way her and Flounder could talk about the most ridiculous things and be serious at other times. She was pretty sure that’s what made their friendship so awesome. “Maybe we’re both thinking too much into it. We definitely should stop talking about it or one of our heads might explode. And I’m already soaking wet, I’d rather not be covered in your brain, too…” She made a grossed out face before giggling. “I think we need one of those swinging clock things. A pocket watch or something. I wonder if you could use any ol’ pocket watch or if you need a specially made one for hypnotism. These are the things we need to figure out before taking over the world. We should probably make a to-do list.”

Jasmine listened, feeling so sorry for Flounder. He was so conflicted and Jasmine wasn’t sure she could help. She may just be making everything worse with what she was saying. “It’s what you believe. If you don’t think he will cheat again, then you should trust your instinct. I just, I don’t see how someone could do that if they’re in a relationship.” Jasmine may have been oblivious to somethings, but cheating wasn’t one of them. She definitely knew it happened, but she couldn’t see how. The same questions about it ran through her head. How could someone say they loved another person and then just decide to be with someone else? Even if they were intoxicated, shouldn’t even their conscience know it’s a bad idea? Flounder’s next question caught her off guard, and her eyes grew wide as she shook her head. “No, no! I don’t-that’s not what I meant. I know you do it because you really like him. I didn’t mean it like that.” It was Jasmine’s turn to look at Flounder with guilt-filled eyes as she mentally kicked herself for saying it like that. “I don’t think you look weak; I just worry. I don’t want you to get hurt again by Edward. I think you deserve someone better than a guy who cheats on you with the only explanation of that he was drunk. It just sounds kind of pathetic. You deserve more than that.”

You Can Stand Under My Umbrella \ Jasmounder

floundertheguppy:

Flounder shrugged a little at her reply, “I guess you’re right about that. I’ve never really been normal so I don’t know the difference. But now I don’t know if I would want to be normal. It’s weird,” he said before stopping his slight rambling as they switched over to talk about other things. He snorted a little as Jasmine brought up their conversation about hypnotism and gave her an incredulous look, “If I remember correctly, you were the one that brought up the subject of hypnotism,” he said with a laugh as he nudged her in the side jokingly. “But that plan still stands, we can take over the world with hypnotism. We just need to learn how to do so.”

As Jasmine gave him a nice smile, Flounder smiled slightly in return as he gathered what he wanted to say to her in his head. When he began speaking, he watched for her reaction to see what exactly she would say or do. He could tell that she was looking a little concerned and by the time he had finished explaining everything to her his suspicions were confirmed as she pulled him into a hug. He thought for a moment when Jasmine asked him what he was thinking of doing, trying to sort that out in his head before he replied. His thoughts were all currently jumbled together and he wanted to make some sense when he replied so he would have to get these thoughts in order. “I really want to get back together with him, Jas, but at the same time it really hurts. I just, I’m not sure what I will do.” He turned to look at her as she pressed on further with a few more questions, trying to find out more to fill in the spaces that Flounder’s story had left. “He was the one who told me and he wasn’t thinking clearly that night. He was drunk so I know what it’s like to sort of lose your head while drinking and having all coherent thoughts go out the window. It’s not like he sought out to cheat on me, it just happened.”

Jasmine got a confused look on her face. “Wait, being normal is weird?” She laughed a little at the irony of it. “Or maybe normal doesn’t even exist. Because if no one is normal, what is normal? I mean, everyone is different so it would be hard to classify something as normal.” She sat there for a second with a concentrated look on her face. “I think I’m thinking into this too much.” She shrugged and a smile came back onto her face. “Oh, was it mean who thought of that idea? That must have slipped my mind…but we would so be the best leaders. Good-looking ones at that.” She added with a giggle.

Jasmine’s confused look from before returned at Flounder’s conflicted reply. It just seemed so simple to her before that if someone cheated that the relationship would be over, that it would be stupid to get back together with someone who had betrayed you, but it was evident that Flounder still really liked Edward. “But why?” She asked, before realizing that Flounder couldn’t actually read her mind. “Aren’t you mad at him for doing that? He did one of the worst things someone could do in a relationship.” Jasmine somewhat nodded at the statement of knowing how someone doesn’t think straight when they are drunk, but she still couldn’t comprehend how someone could be so drunk that he would be unfaithful to someone he allegedly loved. “Flounder, I don’t know what to say…” She sighed, looking at him then looking at the ground. “I mean, people say everyone deserves a second chance but if you give him your forgiveness, what if he does it again? Will you forgive him then? Sometimes forgiveness is taken as weakness.” If there was one thing Jasmine learned while being taught how to be a leader, was how to a strong one. And there was many times when forgiveness wasn’t appreciated but saw as weakness in giving someone to do the same thing over again. “Maybe he didn’t seek out to cheat on you, but that doesn’t happen by accident either.”

Oh, the original’s great! I’ve got it, you should come over and watch it sometime :) And I could always help ya with your dancing. We welcome all skills levels in dance class, I teach pretty often :)

Really? That’d be awesome! I always wondered if the dancing was..older? If that makes sense. Since the new one has a lot of hip hop. Oh, wow, I don’t know if I could make it through a class. The only dancing I’ve ever done was at Prom or one of the parties and that’s mostly just jumping up and down…

You Can Stand Under My Umbrella \ Jasmounder

floundertheguppy:

Flounder nodded his head in agreement, “Everyone here is pretty weird in their own way, but that’s a good thing. I’d hate it here if it were filled with a bunch of boring, unoriginal people.” He laughed lightly when Jasmine said that she thought he was one of the only normal people at Walt. “You thought I was normal? It must have come as a bit of a shock for you when you found out I wasn’t, then.”

When Jasmine wrapped her arm around Flounder as he rested with his head on her shoulder, he smiled a little, grateful for the comforting gesture. He was glad that Jasmine was open to hearing about what he wanted to talk about and not shrugging it off because it would probably come off boring or something she wouldn’t want to hear, “Great, I’ll keep that in my mind for the future as well then.” He still wasn’t used to people actually wanting to hear what was going on in his life, even after all the months he spent here at Walt. He guessed it would take a little time to get used to it completely.  He could tell that Jasmine wanted to ask about what happened as she fiddled with a blade of grass before asking him exactly that. Flounder sighed a little bit as he gathered his thoughts to reply, “Edward cheated on me. So, I told him that we needed to take a break before we could do anything else. Give us some time to think everything over and figure out what exactly it is that we both want.” Flounder closed his eyes for a second before leaning back from Jasmine slightly so he could look at her, opening them again. “But I’m having a little trouble figuring it out. I’m not sure what to do,” he finished, biting his lip a little bit as his sentence trailed off.

“Well, I don’t think normal means boring. It could, but,” Jasmine shrugged. She had spent s whole sixteen years and counting wishing her life was normal. Heck, compared to her life now, normal would be more exciting. “Oh yes, I was very shocked. I heard our devious plans to take over the world via hypnotism and realized that you, sir, are not very normal.” As if she had nothing to do with that plan. Their laughing clashed with the sound of the rain, but Jasmine was very happy; laughing was a much more enjoyable sound than crying.

Giving a promising smile (unlike her joking ‘president’ smile, but a real, genuine smile full of promise), Jasmine hoped he would definitely remember that she was always there. That’s what friendship was all about, and she wanted Flounder to know she was aiming to be a really good friend. Jasmine listened, her eyes widening as spoke about what happened. “Oh, Allah, that’s terrible, Flounder!” She replied, engulfing him in a  hug. Sitting back, she gave him a concerned look. “What were you thinking about doing?” She asked slowly. She wasn’t sure if it was her spot to ask that, but he did say he wanted to talk about it. It was kind of ironic, almost. Jasmine was probably the least-familiar person with relationships, the fact that she had only ever been (or currently was) in one. “Was Edward the one who told you?” Jasmine didn’t know Edward very well; she wasn’t even sure if she had ever met him besides talking briefly with him at Prom, but she didn’t have a very high opinion of him after that. Everything about cheating seemed so…wrong. If you loved someone, if you wanted to be with them enough to be in a relationship, why would you even have to think about being with another person?
